Luxium — Semi-Modular Synthesizer

Four oscillators. One living instrument. Luxium is a semi-modular software synthesizer for expressive playing, deep patching, and sounds that keep moving after you strike a note.

Luxium’s normalled signal path makes a sound immediately. Go further with visible cables between oscillators, filters, shapers, envelopes, LFOs, and performance controls. Each oscillator has its own drift path, so a chord can move without every voice tracing the same curve.

In the current 0.5.0 beta

  • Four oscillators with sync, pulse shaping, and through-zero FM.
  • Three LFOs that work as modulation sources or audible sources through the audio inputs and Mix → Aux.
  • One oscillator Detune or LFO Rate control with six modes: Pitch, PART/SUB, Hertz, Hz Offset, Sync, and Beat Offset.
  • Two filter slots with 14 models, including 12 dB and 24 dB transistor ladder bandpass.
  • 64 modulation routes and audio patching that can replace the default signal flow.
  • Independent A/B effects paths for VCA layers, summed into one stereo master output.
  • Voice stealing, Jupiter Divide, and Re-Pedal for expressive chords and guitar-like playing.

From first note to finished tone

Shape the result with modeled amplifiers, cabinets, continuous microphone placement, a reorderable effects rack, and LushVerb. LushVerb processes the combined synth signal, with ten algorithms, shimmer, motion, ducking, and freeze. Luxium can also process external audio through the rig.

Next beta update · in development

These features are implemented in our development build and are being prepared for the next public beta. The current 0.5.0 download does not include them yet.

  • Two MSEGs: up to 16 points each, curved segments, One Shot, Hold, Loop, Ping Pong, tempo sync, and bipolar output. Edit on Seq and patch their per-voice CV outputs from Voice.
  • Arp chaining and key zones: A→B or B→A, independent Low/High limits, and play or mute outside the zones. Both arps share the synth voice path and effects.
  • Separate Multiband Compressor: upward and downward compression across lows, mids, and highs, with its own rack controls and routing.
  • VCA Drive: optional per-voice amplifier saturation, alongside wider Analog and Filter drift ranges and the Slop control.
  • Workflow refinements: a separate Sequencer CV module, a Center modulation input for the modulation effect, safer Save As drafts, and patch-name restoration through Undo.
  • Automatic patch tagging: saving a patch reads its settings and modulation cables to add feature tags such as mono, unison, FM, PWM, sync, delay, reverb, amp, and cab. Your own tags are preserved without duplicates, and older writable user patches receive missing automatic tags without changing their sound.

Save patches. Find them by what they do.

The next beta’s patch browser makes automatic tags searchable and filterable in Character, Playing, and Engine groups. It also suggests a category from the patch name or settings—such as an active arp, a slow attack, or a short percussive envelope—which you can review or change. Categories such as Bass, Lead, Pad, and Pluck stay separate from feature tags. This is based on patch settings, not audio recognition; factory and read-only files are not rewritten.
